DESTROID SPARTAN -Mainforce Battloid (AKA - Gladiator)

The Destroid Spartan was designed to maximize flexibility in all the ways the Tomahawk was designed to maximize firepower. Though still equipped with a formidable missile armament, the Spartan lacked the punch from guns, and its laser and gun cluster were mainly intended for defensive purpose. Instead, the Spartan was meant to be able to be similar in capability to a Veritech Valkyrie in Battloid mode, including carrying a gunpod, but with far heavier armor.

Technical Specifications

Model: MBR-07-Mk. II Spartan

Height: 11.2 meters (36.75 feet)

Weight: 28.9 metric tons (empty), 35.5 metric tons (fully loaded)

Armor: Composite (Reactive Armor in some versions)

Power Plant: Fusion reactor

Propulsion: Ground propulsion via legs, no flight capabilities

Crew: 1 pilot, 1 co-pilot

ARMAMENT

  • 2 x light lasers, located in a turret on the top of the mecha
  • 2 x Missile launchers in the shoulder, each carrying 12 short-range heavy missiles
  • 1 x Gun cluster in the center torso containing:
  • - 1 x 32 mm autocannon
  • - 1 x 180mm direct-fire mortar
  • - 1 x light laser
  • - 1 x flamethrower
  • - 12.7 mm machine gun

Role and Function

Role: The Destroid Spartan is primarily designed as an artillery and close-combat support unit. It serves as a versatile and heavily armed platform capable of both direct fire and missile bombardment.

Function: Deployed for defensive purposes, it provides fire support for other units and engages enemy mecha and aircraft. It can operate in urban, terrestrial, and limited aquatic environments.

Design Features

Mobility: While it lacks flight capabilities, the Destroid Spartan is designed for stability and firepower, able to traverse rough terrain and provide a solid defensive line.

Versatility: With its multiple weapon systems, it can engage a variety of targets from other mecha to fortifications and aircraft.

Defensive Systems: It includes advanced targeting systems, radar, and limited ECM (Electronic Counter Measures) to protect against enemy detection and missile attacks.

Historical and Cultural Context

Origin: The Destroid Spartan is a product of the fictional Robotech Defense Force, created to defend humanity against alien threats.

Appearances: It is prominently featured in various battles throughout the Robotech series, particularly in the Macross Saga.

Variants: Different models and upgrades of the Destroid series exist, each tailored for specific combat roles, including the Defender (anti-aircraft), Phalanx (long-range missile bombardment), and Tomahawk (general purpose).

In-Universe Impact

Tactical Use: Often used in concert with Valkyrie fighters and other mecha to create a balanced force capable of dealing with various threats.

Deployment: Widely deployed in ground engagements, often seen in defensive perimeters around key installations and cities.

The mecha is equipped with vernier thrusters, making it capable of limited space operations. In most cases, the mecha was used on the deck of the SDF-1, and its capacity to maneuver in zero-gee was limited to propelling itself back toward the ship's deck, if it is ever knocked off.

Legacy

The Destroid Spartan remains one of the iconic mecha in the Robotech universe, representing the heavy-duty, ground-based firepower that complements the more agile and versatile Valkyrie fighters.

These specifications and roles highlight the importance of the Destroid Spartan in the Robotech series, emphasizing its utility and firepower in defending against alien invasions and supporting human forces in large-scale conflicts.

I had Armoured Zentraedi Warrior ever since I was around 12yrs old. I bought him in a local used toy store. When I had a paper route and starting to earn some money I started hunting for Robotech figures. It was really hard to find  Robotech figures when I was younger plus I did not have the money. Now they are a little bit more easier to find but cost alot more now. Armoured Zentraedi Warrior is part of my collection. Ill be posting more as soon as possible.

Thanks

Unfortunately when I purchased Armoured Zentraedi Warrior he did not come with his helmet. the Articulation was not bad at the time for the figures. I'm pretty happy with this figure it would be cool if they made up dated figures like a 30th anniversary figure line or something like that

ROBOTECH - RICK HUNTER VF/S1 Super Valkyrie (MATCHBOX)

RICK HUNTER VF/S1 Super Valkyrie

Robotech was one of my all time favourites cartoons when I was a kid. The Story line was very unique for me compared to other cartoons at the time. Unlike Transformers that are sentient beings, these mecha  you can fly and transform. What was even more cool for me is that they could even transform in three modes (Fighter, Guardian,Battloid). It was like you can be a Transformer yourself.

     VF-1S

Mecha Class: Veritech fighter, aerospace capable
Crew: 1 pilot
Weight: 13.3 metric tons (dry)

I guess what attracted Robotech to me was the battle seance, the love story and it was a first time for me to see a cartoon character to die. that was really shocking for me.

I bought the Matchbox VF/S1 from a local guy on Craigslist. He was selling his whole collection of Robotech figures. I was so shocked when I saw his collection. I knew most of  these figures were never sold in my area. He later told me he bought them on ebay and other sites.

The Veritech Fighter was released by Matchbox (1985), Harmony Gold (1992) and Playmates (1994). The accessories were the same with every release. It came with twelve missiles, 4, missile racks, a booster rocket pack and a gun (which was connected to the bottom). Some of the missle were missing when I bought th VF-S1 but it was something I had to have in my collection.

The skull and crossbones tail fins and the stickers depicting shot down Zentraedi (visible below the cockpit) are all from the Matchbox version. The Playmates version of the Veritech had a blue tinted cockpit window, blue boosters and no skull and crossbones on the tail fins.

Unfortunately this toy is not transformable, It looks as though Matchbox had tried to make it transform. The rear jets (feet) can open, and the arms actually have hinges visible underneath the body. They are rendered completely useless by screws. Another clue might be that it came with a removable gun. Too bad It can't transform that would be really sweet

The Veritech Fighters were piloted by  Rick Hunter, Roy Fokker, Max Sterling or Miriya action figures.

VF-S1 NO ARMOUR
The Veritech VF-1

Earth's first transformable fighter. Powered by fusion engines, the VF-1 is fully space-capable, and is carried in great numbers on the SDF-1 as well as the armor series of carriers. The VF-1 supports 3 modes of operation: fighter mode for aerospace superiority missions, guardian mode for close air support missions, and battloid mode for ground combat missions.

ARMAMENT AND WEAPONS

*1 x 3-barreled 55mm gatling cannon in a gun pod
*4 light laser cannons, mounted on the head/turret
*2 x light lasers in the nose (upgrade from sensors, only for Veritech fighters aboard the SDF-1)
*4 wing hardpoints (2 per wing)

*3 x 300mm medium range missiles
*1 (inner) or 2 (outer) x 533mm long range missiles
*1 x short-range multiple ejection 150mm missile launcher containing 15 missiles

The VF-1S "Skull Leader" is a unique fighter based on a prototype platform of the VF-1 specially designed for commanding officers of Veritech squadrons. Only a dozen of these units had been produced by the time the Zentraedi attacked Macross Island in 2009. The prototype number 001 (AKA Skull One) was the last known surviving VF-1S aboard the SDF-1. It marvelously survived through several years of battle and was never destroyed, making it a symbol of  the people of Earth's fearlessness and determination.

RICK HUNTER / LISA HAYES

Rick and Lisa, finally together Despite the long and rocky start, Rick and Lisa form a strong and lasting romance that lasts for the rest of the Robotech Saga. They spent the next eight years overseeing the rebuilding of Earth and the construction of the SDF-3.  In Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles, (set in 2043-2044) the two are still in love, despite all the challenges they have faced during the last three decades.

SDF-1: ROBOTECH / MACROSS

Super Dimentional Fortress - 1

I found this Action Figure on Craigslist. This guy was selling his whole collection of action figures. The SDF-1 was a little damaged when I purchased it. The Canon and arm was broken off. Fortunately I was able to repair it. These are a few shot I taken of the SDF-1
SDF1 - ROBOTECH
One of the best known vessels, if not the best known vessel, of the Robotech Wars is the SDF-1 battle fortress. Originally, this was a battle fortress belonging to the Robotech Masters, but it escaped to and crashed on Earth under orders from Zor. The planet Earth spent almost a decade repairing the ship and learning its secrets, then went to war with the Zentraedi fleets that came to retrieve the battle fortress. During the war, much of Macross City was recreated inside the ship, an amazing feat of creative use of available internal spaces.

SDF1 - MACROSS
Macross Island in the South Pacific was the launch point for the battle fortress SDF-1. Around the island on the day of the launch were Earth Defence ships. These ships were not flight capable, they were just there for supply; the carriers were transporting supplies and fighters to the island to be loaded, or were apart of the air show in celebration for the launch.

SDF-1 / MAINGUN

A Main Gun was a somewhat generic term assigned to the primary artillery battery of a large ship.
The beam of Main Gun was so wide and powerful that is was primarily used to completely obliterate an enemy ship or squadron of fighters / smaller vessels. They tend to have used a great deal of energy and could not be fired continually.

SDF-1

Height: 312m
Mass: 18,000,000 tons (operational)
Range: Full solar system transit capability, unlimited fold range

SDF-1 / BRIDGE
SDF-1 / The Super Dimension Fortress Macross
SDF-1 STARBIRD

One of the best known vessels, if not the best known vessel, of the Robotech Wars is the SDF-1 battle fortress. The SDF-1 served until 2014, when the ship was destroyed in a kamikaze attack by Khyron. Many of its systems were salvaged and used for the SDF-3. A nearly-complete sister ship, the SDF-2, was destroyed minutes before the SDF-1.

SDF1 - Reflex Cannon
The SDF-1 prepares to fire its giant Reflex Cannon.

SDF1 - TRANSFORMATION

When the Zentraedi attacked Macross Island the surrounding forces counter attacked in a move to save the battle fortress. Carriers: Daedalus, and Prometheus both aided in the defence, sending any fighters and support to the island, after the SDF-1 took off they were left behind on Earth. In Space

SDF-1 Daedalus Attack

The Daedalus Manoeuvre and the Pinpoint Barrier System proved to be very effective means of attack and defence respectively. However, those manoeuvres prove to raise the desire of Commander Breetai to secure the battle fortress intact.
SDF1 / Prometheus
 Mecha
 *200 VF-1 Veritech Valkyrie fighters.
 *120 QF-3000E Ghost drone fighters.
 *150 Destroids
*50 AEW aircraft, space shuttles, and other small auxiliary craft
SDF1 - CVS-101 Prometheus

Also known as: Super Dimension Fortress One, Macross, Zor's Battlefortress, Super Dimensional Fortress
FRONTAL VIEW
SDF-1 / SLV-111 Daedalus

Armaments
*1  Reflex Cannon
*8 Main particle connons
*1 Secondary triple-barreled particle cannon
*4 Single barrel rail connons
*16 Triple barreled laser/particle beam turrets
*12 Torpedo tubes
*48 Ten-tube missile lancher boxes
*Multiple single-use missile launchers

 The Super Dimension Fortress Macross
At it's time the largest of the transformable mecha. This SDF-1 is around 16 inches tall and weighs quite a bit, considering that it is made mostly of plastic.I think the toy pictured is a Bandai released SDF-1 with a Takatoku Prometheus and Main Gun/Reflex Cannon tips (note the yellow launching mechanisms). The Daedalus and Prometheus are removable and they have small wheels on their undersides. The SDF-1 has many hatches that can be opened and three sets of fold down wheels that can be used when it is in ship mode. It was hard to tell who made this Action Figure. For some reason the markings were scratched off when I bought it. When I was a kid it was hard to fingd Robotech Action figures. Even to this day it is a little bit hard but most people now are selling there collection. I guess they have too. Im guessing

1. They are married and have to give up there collection.
2. They need the money
3. They out grown them.

Most people I met on craiglist had to get rid of there collection because there wife did not like them and told them to get rid of them.

It's OK I'm glad I have the SDF-1 in my collection.

The below Amazon link may not be the same model. But its a new version of the SDF-1
