Robotech/Macross Takatoku VF-S1

Robotech/Macross Takatoku VF-S1

Takatoku 1/55 was one of the original line of toys created by Takatoku Toys made to promote the Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series and later The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie. Bandai currently makes reissues.

Shōji Kawamori and Kazutaka Miyatake pitched their ideas to Takatoku Toys. One major obstacle during the designing of the transforming toys was a way to swing the two rear fuselage pieces to the front to become the legs. Eventually, the legs were hinged onto the cockpit by two metal parts, although this cut down show-accuracy, it made them the a pinnacle of toy engineering in that era, the kind of toy engineering that wouldn't be seen until the late 80s and early 90s. To this day, a lot of VF-1 Valkyrie toys use the same technique to bring the legs to the front. A notable gimmick of these toys are the spring-loaded landing gear. In the wake of Takatoku’s collapse, Matsushiro, the company that had been originally contracted to design the 1/55 VF-1, acquired the rights to the mold. Hasbro contracted Matsushiro to manufacture the 1/55 toy as part of The Transformers toyline, and re-branded the toy as "Jetfire". Shortly thereafter Matsushiro also hit financial hard times and Bandai acquired many of Takatoku’s assets from Matsushiro including the 1/55 VF-1 mold.

Kawamori told Takatoku to time their releases in accordance to the anime's release. The first toy to be released was the VF-1J in the November of 1982, this was because the VF-1J was the protagonist's main mecha for the first arc of the series. By the December of that year, they had already sold around 20 0000 1/55 scale VF-1 Valkyrie toys.

Super Dimension Century Orguss Orgoid / Takatoku (Robotech/Macross)

Super Dimension Century Orguss

The Action Figure I bought many years ago from my bud many years ago. When I was younger I was told it was related to Robotech some how but I was not really sure. Now I found out some new information about this figure.

Orguss was originally planned to be used as the third season of Robotech in the United States just as the two other Super Dimension series (Macross and Southern Cross) were used for the two first seasons. Instead, the anime Genesis Climber Mospeada was used as the third segment of Robotech. Additionally, these three series are not sequels, prequels, or even in the same story universe as one another. They do share "The Super Dimension" moniker in their titles and were presented by Big West. That was the only connection that each of the Super Dimension shows had with each other.

ORGROID

Takatoku produced 1/40 scale Orguss Orgroid from Super Dimensional Century Orguss. The Orguss Orgroid was the flagship vehicle from the Orguss series. Orguss is piloted by Kei Katsuragi, a fighter jock and cad, who is transported to another dimensional after a dimensional Time Oscillation Bomb he sets triggers during the heat of battle.

This transformable action figure still looks pretty good after all these years in storage. Unfortunatley I do not have all the accesories, weapons and the original packaging it comes with. I hope in time I will be able to find all the parts form him.

In the Super Dimension Century Orguss series the year is 2065. The world is at war. The two superpowers clash over the space elevator. Far more dangerous than atomic, biological, or chemical weapons are dimensional weapons, such as the Space/Time Oscillation Bomb. Despite the tremendous power of this bomb, it must be armed on-site by a team of engineers.

TANK

The Freedom Space Corps launch an offencive to plant a Space/Time Oscillation Bomb and destroy the space elevator. During this attack, the engineers are forced to abort the mission and destroy the bomb before it can be properly armed. Enraged at the decision to abort and feeling that his comrades have died in vain, brash fighter pilot Kei Katsuragi haphazardly arms the bomb with severe repercussions.

A dimensional explosion transports Kei and his Bronco 2 variable fighter to a severely damaged future. There he is pursued for unknown reasons by the militaristic Chilam and aided by the Gypsie-like Emaan. Both sides have some unknown interest in Kei referring to him as a "Tokuiten".

After Kei's fighter is damaged during a fight the Emaan modify it into the Orguss, the eponymous mecha from the series.

GERWALK

Kei Katsuragi

Second Lieutenant of the Freedom Space Corps. Age 20. He was assigned on a mission to escort and provide cover to a group of engineers who were arming the Space/Time Oscillation Bomb in order to destroy the Space Elevator. When circumstances force the mission to abort, Kei decides to properly arm the Space/Time Oscillation Bomb himself. This resulted with Kei being transported 20 years into the future, where he is found by a group of tradesfolk from Emaan, believing him to be the Idiosynchratic Point. Aside from being a formidable pilot, Kei is also a womanizer, having several different girlfriends which he dates alternately before he met the Emaans, in which he begins a new romantic relationship with Mimsy. Even in his relationship with Mimsy, Kei still tends to flirt with any other woman that catches his eye.

Super Dimension Century Orguss' 35 episodes, only 17 of them were available in English in dub-only format in the early 1990s on video tape from U.S. Renditions, before the majority of the company's shows (excluding Orguss) were bought up by Manga Entertainment. Manga Entertainment did however release Orguss 02 on both video tape and DVD.

FLYER

STATS

Height: 8.7m
Width: 6.0m
 Length: 5.1m
Weight: 6.7 tons
Main Engines: FF-2060CT x 2
Armament: Missile gun x 1

The Orguss can transform to Orgroid (Robot) mode, fighter mode, Gerwalk mode and Tank mode. Each mode has advantages and disadvantages, but the wide range of transform modes can cover all combat situations.

The Orguss was named by Jaby, after his peoples' god of war, and was built by Leegh from the remains of Kei's Bronco fighter. The Orguss is armed with a projectile/missile gun early on and a beam weapon later. The tubes in the Orgroid arms are missile launchers.

The Orguss has a Drifand propulsion system, which is the Emaan's anti-gravity drive system. Emaan mecha still use thrusters for additional speed, but the primary lift (and the light weight of their mecha) is from the Drifand grav system. Kei's original Orguss is also tricked out with extra electronics and more responsive control systems to match Kei's superb piloting skills.

ORGUSS WITH G1 JETFIRE AND BIGMANILA

Soon  the Orrguss Orgoid well be going back to my buddy. It was one of his first action figures he ever got. He forgot he sold it to me.  We were talking one time and he was telling me of one of the first action figures he ever had. Then I just reminded him that I bought it from him years ago. It would be cool to reunite them again.
